Yesterday, I confessed my lack of experience at online dating. However, I now have experience with online “friending”… because this week, I went to lunch with my friend Rachel. Rachel writes a great blog,www.thehouseofburks.com, and I feel as I though I already know her and her darling family. Except that until Monday, I didn’t… But I did because I am a loyal reader and twitter follower of hers.
Although it might not seem like it, I promise you I am selective about what I post. The most important reasons I am selective are my husband and my daughter, followed very closely by my family and my friends. I have some wonderful friends who are very strong women and I DO NOT want to get on their list mainly because I do not want to disappear. Also? Young readers, PAY ATTENTION: THE INTERNET IS FOREVER. Your future employer/significant other/mother-in-law/even your future children WILL Google you. Your “funny” pics of keg stands and Girls Gone Wild shenanigans WILL be on display. (A special Thank You to the Internet gods for protecting me and my friends from social media… not that I ever did anything wrong EMMA!)
Because I understand the selective nature of blogging, as I drove to the restaurant, I was nervous! What if Rachel wasn’t like the Rachel on her blog? What if she thought I wasn’t like the Julia on my blog? After we sat down, I confessed to Rachel that I was nervous to meet her… and then she confessed she was nervous as well! We had to laugh at ourselves. Unlike online dating, we already knew what the other looked like, we already knew we liked each other, and had things in common. And, thankfully, while selective, we are (mostly) honest about our lives. Our laughter broke the ice, and I am very happy to report that I like Rachel just as much, if not more, in person than on the internet. Because we knew so much about each other, it was more like catching up with an old friend than meeting a new one.
And, I am VERY happy to report that I will not have to be internet dating anytime soon, as it must be sort of a nightmare an adventure. To my friends who are internet dating: thank you for taking for the team as you have some of the BEST STORIES ever! Keep ‘em coming! Also, when you do meet someone, it is very likely that you will score higher than a 59% on compatibility…

So fun to meet fellow bloggers!

I had such a great time! I really was nervous though. I even got up early to attempt to do something with my hair.
It did feel very much like a blind date! We must do it again soon. Anytime you are around Midtown just give me a call and we can do lunch!

So Glad you had fun. I found out the hard way that anyone can stumble onto a blog that you think is hidden away, oops. I am happy to say, I used no names but, I use photos so yes, it was easy to know who I was talking about. I didn’t stretch the truth BUT I gave my perspective or two cents and they didn’t like it so the relationship has been forever broken, um, yeah, not a good thing and hard lesson learned but they did kind of over react, trust me, they have done some serious stuff in our family and have been forgiven, to lose it over a couple of blog posts is truly an over reaction. I owned my words, promised to never ever hint of them again and moved on but oh, well, didn’t really like them anyway, so, lesson learned and onwards and upwards!

Online dating is not terrible. I met my fiance on an online dating site. It can be a nightmare, and I have one particular unforgettable date that was. It is so nice to meet people in person so that you can have the facial experessions to go with the words. I am following you from the Super Sunday Sync.
Please stop by and say hello!

Online dating SUCKS.
So over it…
Yes, I can imagine… just checked out your blog and love it!
If only people would understand. I had a girl apply for a position at my old place of business. She had very provocative pictures all over the internet. I hope she found a job more suited for her.
I’d love to meet some of the local bloggers and was wondering how meet ups and such get started.
Where are you located? There is a southern bloggers link at the bottom of my page. There is also a coast to coast button out there…
